Strengthening safeguarding / whakahaumarutia practices

VisAble works across sectors and communities to raise awareness of the impact of family and sexual violence on disabled people and whānau.

We work with the disability sector and with organisations who support disabled people

We strengthen these organisations’ safeguarding / whakahaumarutia practices through providing expert training, self-assessment tools, and guidance, along with accessible, high-quality safeguarding resources.

Responding to Child to Parent Violence and Abuse (CPVA)

VisAble’s capability-building mahi (work) includes raising awareness of Child to Parent Violence and Abuse (CPVA).

  • VisAble offers CPVA training to organisations.

  • We have a range of practical resources available for parents/caregivers and professionals.

  • We run a peer support group for parents, caregivers and whānau.

    • CPVA encompasses a broad range of behaviours that a child might display towards their parents, caregivers and whānau. The violence can also continue into adulthood.

    • Child to parent violence and abuse is more common than people realise - yet it’s often misunderstood, unspoken, and invisible.
