About safeguarding / whakahaumarutia
Violence, abuse and neglect are NOT OKAY,
regardless of who is doing it to you.
Violence, abuse and neglect are NOT OKAY,
regardless of who is doing it to you.
Safeguarding / whakahaumarutia is aimed at:
Responding to and stopping violence, abuse or neglect.
Supporting and enabling Adults at Risk to improve their safety, including helping them leave harmful environments or situations of concern, if needed.
Keeping the person in need of support at the heartof the safeguarding response(or intervention), listening carefully to what’s important to them.
This video briefly notes some of the key concepts in safeguarding.
Produced by Safeguarding Ireland, 2021.
This video is from overseas. All the information is relevant to safeguarding in Aotearoa New Zealand, apart from the contact details for an emergency response and for safeguarding organisations.
In New Zealand, here is the information you need for a safeguarding response.
Safeguarding / whakahaumarutia is person-centred and person-directed.
This means it focuses on individual people and their situations
and it enables the person’s own voice and choice
as we work together to stop or prevent violence, abuse and neglect.
